There Is One Thing We Can All Agree On

Today more than ever we see everyone disagreeing on just about everything.

But there is one thing I believe we can all agree on – and when I say all, I mean employees, company management, owners, safety directors, safety consultants and everyone else associated with a business.

No one wants to see an employee get seriously injured on the job.

Am I right?

So, why is it that we can’t seem to find a way to work together to keep America’s workforce safe?

Employees continue to come up with excuses for not using PPE or short cutting safety (hopping that ladder, for example); owners and management think that it is just common sense for employees to work safely or it costs too much; safety consultants think we just need more training and checklists; and as for safety directors, no one wants to see them on the job.

Does that sound about right?

Think about it.We all have different views of how we should handle workplace safety, but in the end we really all want the same thing.

For everyone to go home at the end of the day – Safe and Sound.

Maybe it’s time to put our differences aside and find a way to work together for something we can all agree on.

Here’s one idea.

Everyone gets together and forms a workplace safety alliance. Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as “an association to further the common interests of the members.”

If we form an alliance to prevent serious workplace accidents (a common interest) we might just be able to prevent a tragedy like the one I’ve talked about before (The Thanksgiving that never happened), or get everyone to wear hard hats when necessary, or we might even see employees and management looking forward to seeing the safety director on site.

Wouldn’t that be something?

Just think about it – an alliance that brings everybody in the workplace together to prevent what none of us ever wants to see, an employee seriously injured on the job.
