Just Because It Sucks

Let’s face it, when it comes to implementing and managing workplace safety and compliance – it sucks!

And when I say it sucks, I mean it sucks for both employees and employers.

You might be asking yourself why would a safety consultant say that?

I’m saying it because it’s the truth.

Implementing and managing workplace safety is a real hassle and it’s is not easy. When it comes to things like workplace safety and compliance, we want it to be easy.

Here are just a few of the reasons employees and employers say is sucks to implement and manage workplace safety and compliance.

The employee must:

  • Sit through safety training and sometimes even take and pass a test
  • Remember to make sure they have all the company-provided PPE with them each day
  • Follow company safety policies and procedures
  • Stop saying, “I’ve done it this way for the past x years ad nothing serious has happened to me yet”

The employer must:

  • Develop a company safety program that is based on the work they perform
  • Take the time to get everyone onboard with their program
  • Implement the program
  • Manage and keep their program updated

As I said above – It sucks for everyone!

But when it’s done right – everyone wins!

Employees are protected from workplace accidents and employers don’t have to deal with all the hassles and high costs associated with accidents in the workplace.

So, as you (employees and employers) go through the process of implementing and managing workplace safety and compliance, please understand it won’t be easy at first. It will get easier as it goes and it’s in everyone’s best interest to make it happen.

Employee QuickTip

If your employer takes the time to put together and implement a company safety program it’s not only your responsibility, it’s absolutely in your best interest to get onboard and be a part of it no matter how much of a hassle you might think it is or how much you think it might suck.

Getting onboard might just save your life someday.

Employer/Management QuickTip

Although many costs associated with workplace accidents are hidden, they still have major impact on the bottom line. So much that I’ve even seen more than one company put out of business due to workplace accidents.

Don’t let another day go by without putting workplace safety to work for you and your employees, no matter how difficult it might be or how much it might suck.
