It’s Going To Get Hot Out There
Hard to believe but it looks like summer is on its way – and with that comes the summer heat and a lot more sun.
So, I thought it might be a good time to review how you can protect yourself from those heat-related illnesses that come from all that sun and heat.
In the past when we’ve talked about heat-related illness, we’ve focused on heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Today we’re going to add in a few more concerns: sunburn, heat cramps and heat rash.
I’m going to focus on the symptoms because you need to know what to look for if you’re going to protect yourself.To make sure you have what you need to prevent and treat these illnesses I’ll provide a couple links below that will give you everything you need.
Here’s what to look for directly from the CDC.
Heat Stroke
- •High body temperature (103°F or higher)
- •Hot, red, dry, or damp skin
- •Fast, strong pulse
- •Headache
- •Dizziness
- •Nausea
- •Confusion
- •Losing consciousness (passing out)
Heat Exhaustion
- •Heavy sweating
- •Cold, pale, and clammy skin
- •Fast, weak pulse
- •Nausea or vomiting
- •Muscle cramps
- •Tiredness or weakness
- •Dizziness
- •Headache
- •Fainting (passing out)
Heat Cramps
- •Heavy sweating during intense exercise
- •Muscle pain or spasms
Sunburn
- •Painful, red, and warm skin
- •Blisters on the skin
Heat Rash
- •Red clusters of small blisters that look like pimples on the skin (usually on the neck, chest, groin, or in elbow creases)
It’s going to get hot out there.Protect yourself and those you work with.
